Amanda M. Weightman

Amanda was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta where she continues to live and work. She is a self-taught, professional artist.

Always trying to convey emotional impact and psychological exploration, Amanda sometimes uses crude, child-like images, and sometimes she limits herself the the elements of the painting itself – color, line, shape, brushstrokes, texture, and light – to express emotions.

Her influences seem to come from a variety of sources, including prehistoric cave paintings, Native American, pre-Columbian, Mexican, and African art, along with the modern European movement, surrealism, which looked to dreams and the unconscious for subject matter.

It would be difficult to attach a label to Amanda's paintings; suffice to say that the purpose of her art is to create expression and emotion.
